Lost, frightened, and wandering the outskirts of Copperas Cove, Texas, a friendly American bulldog mix named Mr. Snufflufugus had no idea where to go — only that he desperately needed help.

When animal control officers finally located him and brought him to Copperas Cove Animal Control, relief washed over the gentle dog. Safe at last, he pressed himself into the arms of animal control supervisor Tamara Hall as if thanking her for rescuing him. Another staff member, Victoria Watkins-Killebrew, happened to witness the tender moment and quickly snapped a photo.
“Victoria and I were in the play yard with him when he decided he needed a hug,” Hall told The Dodo. “He likes everyone, but I’m definitely his favorite. And as his favorite, I get all the special hugs and kisses!”
Affection is simply who Mr. Snufflufugus is. The shelter staff soon learned that he has one defining trait: he loves to cuddle more than anything.

“He’s absolutely a cuddle bug,” Hall said. “If you sit down on the floor, he’ll climb right into your lap or wiggle up next to you. And those sweet eyes — he knows exactly how to use them to get attention.”
When he’s not hugging someone, Mr. Snufflufugus enjoys short walks, though his heart belongs to quieter moments.
“He loves little strolls, but honestly, he’s a couch potato at heart,” Hall added.

After the photo of his heart-melting hug went viral, the small shelter was flooded with adoption applications from people eager to bring him home. Because Copperas Cove Animal Control has limited resources for such a high volume of requests, they’re in the process of transferring him to a larger rescue that can carefully match him with the perfect family.
For now, he’s soaking up affection from volunteers, learning routines, and giving out endless snuggles in return.
This big-hearted boy is more than ready for his forever home — and whoever adopts him is guaranteed a lifetime supply of hugs.
