When three massive Saint Bernard brothers lumbered through the doors of the Edmonton Humane Society in Alberta, Canada, staff members could hardly believe their eyes. Together, Goliath, Gunther, and Gasket weighed more than 300 pounds — a mountain of fur, paws, and drool that took up an entire section of the shelter.

From their enormous heads to their soft, cloud-like coats, everything about the trio was larger than life. But so was their story.

“We actually had to close down an entire dog ward just to make sure they had enough space to stay together,” said Jamey Blair, manager of animal health and protection at the shelter. “They’re that big — and that inseparable.”

Despite their size, the three gentle giants were perfectly content sharing one large kennel. Staff often found them curled up in a heap of fur and love, fast asleep and snoring softly, like one massive Saint Bernard pillow.

“One of our team members peeked in and saw all three of them snuggled up together,” Blair recalled with a smile. “She said it was the most adorable thing she’d ever seen — she wanted to crawl right in and join them.”

A Bond Too Deep To Break

The brothers, all around five years old, had been together since birth. They ate from the same bowl, played side by side, and had never spent a night apart. Shelter staff quickly suspected that separating them might cause distress — and they were right.

As part of a behavioral assessment, the team briefly placed them in different kennels to see how they’d cope.

“The moment we separated them, their anxiety went through the roof,” Blair said. “They were panting, pacing, and trying to find each other. They wouldn’t eat. As soon as they were reunited, all of that stopped instantly.”

It was clear to everyone: these three brothers were a bonded set, and they would only be adopted as a trio.

Looking for a Home Big Enough for Three

Finding one loving home is hard enough — finding a single adopter willing (and able) to take on three enormous dogs at once seemed almost impossible. But the staff refused to give up.

“They’re truly lovely dogs — so affectionate, gentle, and goofy,” Blair said. “They’re social, great with people, and even get along with other dogs. You can’t help but fall in love with them.”

So the shelter decided to share their story on social media. What happened next was beyond anyone’s expectations.

A Viral Sensation of Love

The post about the “three inseparable Saint Bernards” spread across Canada within hours — and then around the world.

“The response has been overwhelming,” Blair said. “We’ve received over 200 emails from people across the country and even from outside Canada, all wanting to give them a home.”

The shelter’s adoption team is now carefully reviewing every application, determined to find a family not only with a big heart but also the space and resources needed to care for three giants.

“People have to understand what that means — feeding over 300 pounds of dog every month, regular grooming, vet visits, and of course, all that slobber,” Blair laughed. “But in return, you get three times the love.”

Triple the Dogs, Triple the Love

While the costs and logistics may be challenging, the joy of having these three gentle brothers together makes it all worth it.

The staff who’ve cared for Goliath, Gunther, and Gasket admit they’ll miss the trio dearly when they leave — but everyone is excited to see them finally start their next chapter.

“They’re adored by everyone here,” Blair said. “Watching them find a forever home — together — will be the happiest ending we could hope for.”

As the world cheers them on, these three oversized teddy bears are waiting patiently for the one family who can handle all their fluff, love, and drool. Because when it comes to brotherhood, they prove that some bonds are just too big to break.
