We Thought China Was Finally Getting Better. Today, We Lost Her—and Our Hearts Are Broken.

Yesterday, we allowed ourselves to feel a little hope.

China had shown a small sign of improvement.

After everything she had been through, after all the medical care and the effort to help her recover, even that slight change meant so much to us.

We wanted desperately to believe she was beginning to turn a corner.

We wanted to imagine the day when she would be strong enough to leave her medical struggles behind.

But today, everything changed.

China’s condition took a devastating turn for the worse.

Despite every effort to save her, her body was simply too sick to recover.

And with tears in our eyes and hearts heavier than words can describe, we have to share the news we prayed we would never have to write.

Our sweet China is gone.

We Did Everything We Could

China was facing serious medical complications.

She was struggling to breathe.

Fluid had accumulated in her lungs, and there was also free fluid in her abdomen.

She was severely anemic, meaning her body had dangerously low levels of healthy red blood cells.

Her white blood cell count was elevated.

So were her liver enzymes.

Each of these findings was concerning. Together, they reflected just how critically ill she had become.

The medical team worked to give her every possible chance.

We followed her condition closely, hoping for encouraging news.

When she seemed slightly better yesterday, we held on to that improvement.

It was a small reason to hope.

And sometimes, when you care deeply about an animal who is fighting for her life, even the smallest sign of progress feels enormous.

But the improvement didn’t last.

Today, her condition deteriorated, and despite continued efforts, there was nothing more that could reverse what was happening.

We lost her.

The Goodbye We Weren’t Ready For

One of the hardest parts of animal rescue is knowing that love, determination, and medical treatment cannot always change the outcome.

We can seek help.

We can provide care.

We can give an animal every chance available.

And sometimes, despite all of that, we still have to say goodbye.

That doesn’t make the loss easier.

We’ve been thinking about everything we wished could have been different for China.

More time.

Better news.

A chance for her body to become strong again.

A future in which her story ended with recovery instead of heartbreak.

That’s the ending we wanted to share.

We wanted to tell everyone that China was improving.

That she’d made it through the worst.

That the difficult days were finally behind her.

Instead, we’re left sharing the news that she didn’t survive.

And it hurts more than we can express.

Her Life Mattered

China was never just another animal needing medical attention.

She was an individual life worthy of kindness, comfort, and care.

Her suffering mattered.

Her chance at recovery mattered.

And now, her loss matters too.

We are heartbroken that we couldn’t save her.

But we are grateful that she was cared for and that people were hoping for her recovery.

To everyone who followed her condition, worried about her, and wished her well, thank you.

We know many of you were hoping for the same happy ending we were.

We wish we had better news to give you.

Tonight, there is no celebration of recovery.

Only sadness, gratitude for everyone who tried to help, and the memory of a dog whose life deserved so much more time.

Rest easy, sweet China. 🌈

We are so sorry that we couldn’t give you the future we wanted for you.

You were loved.

You mattered.

And even though your story ended far sooner than we hoped, you will not be forgotten.

Run free, beautiful girl. No more struggling to breathe. No more suffering. Just peace. 🐾❤️
